The Alps is the collective name for one of the great mountain range systems of Europe, stretching from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west. The word Alps means mountains. The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc at 4810 meters on the French-Italian border.

Schloss (palace) Nymphenburg is a huge, impressive baroque castle just outside the centre of Munich. It served as a summer palace to the famous Wittelsbach family. Here lived also King Ludvig II who had the "fairytale castle" Neuschwanstein built. There's also the Royal Stables Museum, a grotto and other palaces like Amalienburg

A STREET IN SALZBURG NEAR MOZARTS BIRTHPLACE.

The Mozarts lived in 9 Getreidegasse from 1747 to 1773, and their son Wolfgang Amadeus was born there in 1756. Today, the home of the Mozart family is a museum where famous exhibits are displayed. Among other attractions, visitors to the museum can see the violin played by the world-famous musical genius as a child, his concert violin, his clavichord, a pianoforte, portraits, and letters of the Mozart family.

DYING LION OF LUCERNE

The 'Dying Lion of Lucerne' is one of the world's most famous monuments. In 1812 it was hewn out of natural rock in memory of the heroic death of the Swiss guards at the Tuileries in 1792. Mark Twain described the Lion of Lucerne as 'the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world'.
